The Cloud Hands is the beginning set of “Nui Gung” (internal cultivation) and the foundation of Sifu Lew’s system Tao Ahn Pai.

The set comprising five relatively non strenuous movements and a seated meditation can, with regular practice, increase vitality, increase perception, calm the mind and bring an overall feeling of well-being.

Master Share K. Lew, now in his early nineties, is a Taoist Priest with over
seventy years experience in traditional healing and martial arts. Master Lew spent thirteen years in the Wong Lung Kwan (Yellow Dragon Monastery) in southern China and was taught the full range of Taoist philosophy, healing and martial arts. He was the first person to teach authentic Taoist internal cultivation to non-Chinese in the U.S.A.

Master Lew's monastery style is Tao Ahn Pai and dates back 1300 years to the founder and one of the eight Taoist immortals Lui Tung Pin. The base of the system is internal cultivation known as Nui Gung.

Framing the Light: Exploring the Forgotten Gems of Chinese Medicine With Chris McAlister Sept 12th & 13th 2009

This weekend seminar will be an exploration into some of the Archaic, forgotten and misunderstood areas of Chinese medicine. While many of the following concepts and theories may be mentioned in most acupuncture training programs there is rarely in depth exploration on how to incorporate them into coherent diagnostic and treatment protocols.

Some of the gems that will be dusted off and polished up into clinically useful protocols.

1. The thirteen ghost points of Sun Simiao.
(The connection with acupuncture’s ancient Shamanistic origins.)

2. The sadly neglected Five Shen points (Po, Shen, Hun, Yi, and Zhi) on the outer Bladder Meridian.

3. Triple Heater and Circulation Sex. (A look at various names and myriad functions attributed to these concepts from both historic and modern commentators and their unique place in modern clinical practice).

4. The Six Curious (Extraordinary) Organs
(Highlighting and revealing their significance as a parallel system to the more well known Zang-Fu and their unique connections to the eight “influential” points.)

The above theories will be woven into multi-purpose treatment protocols which serve as a basis for a fresh look at treatment style and aims in Chinese Medicine.

The weekend as a whole is structured to provide several useful new tools for practitioners to apply ancient healing practices to complicated modern patients. Simultaneously this seminar will allow practitioners to deepen their original commitment to the vital currents of internal alchemy which shine so brightly from within our living tradition of healing.

Participants will be able to:
1. Describe the locations and functions of Sun Simiao's ghost points and be able to apply both needle and digital stimulation.

2. Understand the meaning and energetics of the 5 Shen points, and how to utilize them in clinical practice.

3. Have a deeper understanding of theory and practical usage of “Triple Heater” and “Circulation Sex” meridians.

4. View the curious organs as a parallel system to the Zang-Fu, and how to incorporate with 8 influential points in treatment protocols.

5. Employ new practical tools based on Ancient Esoteric wisdom to treat difficult modern complaints.

About the Presenter

Chris McAlister has over twenty years experience studying, practicing and teaching energy cultivation and oriental medicine, Six years of which he spent studying Shiatsu, Kampo, Acupuncture and Moxibustion extensively in Japan including clinical apprenticeships. Since 1995, Chris has been living in Sweden where he maintains a busy private practice and teaches courses in Shiatsu, Acupuncture, Moxibustion, Tai Chi and Qi Gong. He has dedicated himself to the task of studying the classics in an attempt to discover and decipher the often overlooked clinical gems that have relevance in the modern clinical setting.

This workshop will be instruction in the Shen exercises. This is a set of twelve non-strenuous exercises (six standing and six seated), whose primary purpose is self-healing. Practical Moxibustion with Junji Mizutani Dec 6-7 2008

Moxibustion is the application of heat to acupuncture points and is one of the oldest and most effective forms of oriental therapy. It is a technique that originated in China and was introduced to Japan more than a thousand years ago. There are two different types of moxibustion: direct and indirect. Japanese Acupuncturists adopted both methods but prefer to use direct moxibustion because of its effectiveness. Direct moxibustion has almost disappeared from Chinese Acupuncture techniques.

In this course you will learn direct moxibustion, a traditional and comfortable style of moxibustion treatment commonly used in Japan. This seminar will cover the theory and physiology of moxibustion, and how to practice safe, comfortable and effective moxibustion directly on the whole body. You will also learn autonomic-nerve balance treatments, as well as symptomatic treatment of such disorders as digestive problems, gynecological problems, and lower back pain. The course will include ample supervised practice time.

Course Objectives
At the end of this course will be able to do the following:
Demonstrate basic techniques of safe, comfortable, direct moxibustion.
Describe the appropriate sequence of moxibustion treatment points to benefit the whole body.
Describe the use and treatment of special effective points on the body.
Demonstrate local moxibustion treatment.
Summarize and demonstrate an autonomic-nerve balance treatment, as well as symptomatic treatment of such disorders as digestive problems, gynecological problems, and lower back pain.

Junji Mizutani, a leading authority of moxibustion in the West, is the director of the North American Journal of Oriental Medicine (NAJOM). He graduated from the Japan Central Acupuncture College in 1983 and has been practicing and teaching shiatsu, acupuncture and moxibustion for 24 years. He taught Shiatsu at Kikkawa College and Shiatsu School of Canada, and served for three years as the president of the Shiatsu Therapy Association of Ontario. The author of Practical Moxibustion Therapy, Mizutani currently practices in Vancouver, B.C., and lectures in the U.S. and Canada.

It was a fantastic weekend celebrating Sifu Share K Lew's 90th birthday and learning The Six Stars NuiGung from the Tao Ahn Pai system of internal cultivation. Over 50 people joined us at the beautiful Planting Fields Arboretum.
